Creative Crafts With Crepe Paper
Crepe Paper Flowers: Did you know that somewhere in the early 1900"s, paper flower making became an alternative to real flowers? People started placing them on the graves on Memorial Day because of far travel, or unavailability of real flowers. It seems it would have a little more meaning to those giving the flowers if they made them, too. A real gift of love and time. There are some fairly intrinsic designs, and simple ones too. Given some practice, beautiful flowers emerge. Roses, sweet peas, daffodils--to name a few. Enroll your kids in learning alongside you as you discover the art of crepe paper flower making. Make an online search to see which patterns you can download. After experimenting with the simple patterns, you can move onto those with more detail.Crepe Paper Medallions: Set up a day that you can have relay races, or a field day with the neighborhood kids. Get some streamers and some colored card stock and make some ribbons the participants can take home. Cut a length of crepe paper, then fan it out in a circle to look like a tiny paper plate with a hole in the center. Cut a circle out of the card stock, slightly larger than the hole left by the paper streamer. Cut two lengths of ribbon to hang down, and glue the paper circle and the ribbon to the center of the "lace" edging of crepe paper. You can use different colors for different winning places. Use glue and glitter or markers to decorate each medallion. Once you"ve made the ribbons, let the games begin.
These are just a couple of ideas to use your left-over, or newly purchased paper streamers. Most of us enjoy the challenge of learning something new, and seeing something plain morph into something beautiful and creative.
